Issue 99 Nitro out today

Issue 99 of Nitro is out today, so I thought I would show some of my rough designs as an insight to some of the design work I put into the comic. Ive polished these up to show on the blog.

Another little insight, is to check out the blog by Cavan Scott, the current ace writer of the Nick Nitro comic script. In this post he also gives some history of Nitro and mentions other projects he applying his strong range of writing skills to:

Another shout out goes to ace comic artist Tom Plant, who will be providing his mad comic skills to the 99th  issue of Nitro:

This weeks digi paints

Monday and todays digital paints.

Here's a broken tank, loosely referenced from  wikimedia commons.

Mini water fall from the Cotswold's, based on my own photo ref. This one may be worked up in oils. Was to be today's speed-paint, but has taken far too long to be a quick painting exercise.

More digital paints

This lonely house is today's digital painting, I was focused on colour, not proportions. Thats why the little fella looks so distorted. Ref is from some not so lovely spot in the US.

Yesterdays exercise, however was left, and dragged over to today.

More practice digital paintings

Whoa, this post looks random. More practice images with different aspects of digital painting focused on.

Todays speed paint, another desert image based on some wallpaper site ref, although I have made changes the composition to improve things.

This was mean to be a speed paint from the weekend, focusing on brush economy. That flew out the window and I ended up spending ages to produce this lady. Image is based on some ref that I founds randomly, so I don't know who to credit. Personally not happy with the results.
Speedy paint from last week, its a harbour warehouse, its that exciting.
Well this fits into this post nicely, its a semi speed-paint based on image from IGN, taken ingame from the Killzone 2, I have changed the image and added my own ideas. I've picked the image mainly because it uses the blue hue for lighting, oh and it has a robot in it.
er..... its my little skull buddy Tobo Candy, lots of them.

Nitro comic character concepts

Here we have some cleaned up designs for the latest Nick Nitro comics. The top image is a full blown bad dude, who will be racing Nick at the Intergalactic Hover board races.

Below is some of the concepts for a Barber who will be cutting Krash Bunny's hair,

More speedy paints

Todays speed paint, sheep in the Cotswold Country Side.
This is based on some reference I picked up years ago and is in my random landscape file. Not sure I quite nailed it.
Finally, a knight. Far more fun than boats and sheep. This is referenced from a promo image for the BBC'S Merlin show. Seeing it now, the Castle in the background should have been left as a colour ground with less detail., currently it draws too much attention to the lazy drawing. Ah, who cares, there's a knight in the picture.
